Croatia has been my favourite family holiday destination now for 11 years, it has the beauty of somewhere like Italy without any high prices and it is hot all summer.
Brac is a beautiful little island just a short ferry ride from the city of Split (you can fly into Split airport). The small town of Supetar is where the ferry drops you off on Brac island, with its pretty stone buildings and cobbled streets.
Supetar is great, it isn’t particularly touristy, especially when we first started going there 8 years ago, there are so many boat trips to take you to other towns around the island and on the mainland. Our favourite trip is to Omis (pictures below) where you can take a little boat between the mountains in the swamp-like river, you eventually end up at the end of a white water rafting course, here you can jump in and swim in the rapids. I would also always recommend taking a trip to wonder around Split for a day. It is perfect for families and younger crowds; plenty of cocktail bars and clubs.
There are countless restaurants to choose from in Supetar, i can’t even tell you my favourite because they’re all amazing, with great views of the harbour and delicious fresh food! If you want dinner looking over the sea then there is Punta restaurant at the end of the beach and for an amazing rooftop bar and restaurant Hotel Osam is a must. If you want dinner looking over the harbour then you have enough choice to try something different every night, all with an amazing view.
Always finish your meal off with an ice cream from one of the stalls along the street, so many flavours! Or if you fancy something different you can’t go wrong with a fresh nutella pancake.
While spending the day on the beach there is one place we always go, the smoothie bar. They have mountains of fresh fruit delivered every day, and will make any smoothie/fruit bowl you like. Check out the view:
The only thing I would change about Croatia is its lack of sandy beaches, so make sure if you plan on going that you pack a pair of beach shoes to wear into the sea! Otherwise I cannot fault it; clear blue sea, guaranteed sun, ample cocktail bars and beautiful scenery.
