For my sisters’ hen do a group of her nearest and dearest took a weekend trip to Marbella. We stayed from Thursday to Sunday and had the best weekend ever!
TRAVEL AND ACCOMMODATION
We flew in to Malaga Airport (this is the closest option as there is no airport in Marbella itself). Three of us flew from London and the rest flew from Bristol airport. Our flights ranged from £140 – £200 return.
We spent a while finding the right apartment, there was lots for us to consider – whether we wanted a swimming pool, to be close to the beach and close to the night life in Puerto Banus. We soon realised that to have all three of these things we would be paying much higher prices than we had budgeted. In the end we settled on a lovely Air Bnb apartment in the old town of Marbella just a few minutes walk from the beach and supermarket. In the end, a swimming pool wasn’t a necessity because we explored the nearby beaches and had plans to visit Nikki Beach club one of the days which has a swimming pool.
We got taxis to Puerto Banus for its nightlife which cost around 4 Euros each. It was lovely staying in the old town Marbella and easy getting around by taxi.
Here are a few things that made the weekend :
The supermarket being just a few minutes walk away was a life saver! We bought breakfast items to have lovely cooked breakfasts every morning and ingredients to cook a chorizo and chicken paella one evening (a traditional Spanish dish to get into the Spanish spirit) this meant we were utilising the kitchen and saving money on cooking ourselves rather than eating out for EVERY meal.
Most importantly we stocked up on ALCOHOL for the weekend – pre drinks at the apartment before our nights out really helped with not spending ridiculous amounts on alcohol! (Marbella is know for its expensive drinks inside bars and clubs).
LA SALA RESTAURANT
For our first evening in Marbella we ate at La Sala. We knew we would be tired from travelling early so decided that a posh meal and champagne was the perfect way to spend our evening. We sat outside on a big table on the terrace and listened to the amazing live band. It was extremely busy so make sure you book a table and prepare to wait at the bar for some time. La Sala also have a club connected to the restaurant that you can head to afterwards, it is very popular but we opted for the strip instead!
NIKKI BEACH CLUB
By far the best day of the holiday! Our final full day on the Saturday meant only one thing – a beach club! Something you absolutely HAVE to do while in Marbella. We chose Nikki beach over the well known Ocean Beach club because we wanted something that wouldn’t be too busy, touristy and overrated. BEWARE beach clubs are not cheap make sure you budget at least 100Euro.
For our bed, towels, use of the pool and two bottles of champagne we paid 100Euro each (9 of us) Being the main thing we wanted to do while we were in Marbella we had all budgeted this amount for just the bed at the club, we managed to persuade them to throw in the champagne! Obviously if you want to get wasted and have more bottles/drinks included then I would definitely suggest putting more money aside. The cheapest drinks to order were sharer cocktails at 95 Euro’s each! We shared a couple of these between us and got sufficiently drunk. The service was amazing, each bed has their own brilliant waiter to take orders and help with anything you need.
I would’ve spent every day here at Nikki Beach had it not been so expensive. It was worth the money and by far the best day in Marbs – with great music, djs, awesome trumpet player and dancers all to keep you entertained!
The perfect club for your partying needs! We danced the night away on the rooftop bar with amazing views of the harbour, admiring the yachts. You can book a table at Pangea and pay for bottles (the expensive option) or just go in as a normal customer.
The street promoters will hassle you all the way down the strip to come into their clubs and bars, listen out for those who promise you free drinks on entry, you can get a really cheap night by doing this!
