Meditation and My Wellbeing

My new years resolution this year was to start meditation, and try to meditate every day. Admittedly there are the odd days where I forget or just can’t find the time, but I do it most days for 10-15 minutes every morning. I can tell you now that 3 months into the year and I can seriously notice an amazing difference in my mental health.

I struggle with high stress, anxiety and anger levels, this is due to dealing with a tragic loss in my family. I already find myself feeling much calmer and at peace with my surroundings. It has helped me become more mindful, appreciative and generally happier in myself.

I started off with a 30 day meditation challenge on Youtube – the guided meditation videos talk you through what to do, how to sit, breathe etc and just generally help you get to grips with all the different ways you can meditate. I loved this because it enabled me to see which kinds I enjoyed more and which I didn’t get along with as much. The channel I used was JBITTERSWEET and I started with her 30 day challenge playlist. I have since found a 30 day meditation challenge by another Youtuber that I slightly prefer by DOYOUYOGA I would recommend both of these channels for beginners. There are endless guided meditation videos on Youtube so it is good to take some time to find the ones you like and once you feel comfortable you may want to start meditating on your own. I personally prefer to keep using guided meditation because it helps me focus, I’m sure eventually I will be ready to do this alone!

It is important to remember that meditation is something that can take a while to get used to, when it is done properly you can start feeling great results straight away however this may vary between different people. For me, it gives me a positive, productive start to each day, while reminding me to appreciate and be mindful of my surroundings. It reminds me not to worry about the future or to dwell on the past but to be here and happy in the now. Meditation can help with numerous things; sleep, stress, anxiety, mindfulness, weight loss and more, you just need to find the right exercises and YouTube is a great place to start.
